CLUB PURPOSE: The Golden Gears Car Club of Frederick County Maryland, Inc., a Maryland Non-Profit 501 (c) (3) Corporation is seeking Annual Sponsors for 2024. The club was formed in 1973 and is dedicated to the preservation, use and enjoyment of historic, classic, muscle, and special interest vehicles.
The club hosts, sponsors and participates in Car Shows, Cruise-Ins, Parades, Bingos, Dances and many other fundraising events. These fundraising events help support local charitable organizations, veterans’ groups, scholarships, and individuals in need within Frederick County Maryland.
This club is open to ALL
makes and models of automobiles, Motorcycles, and
Special Interest Vehicles.
Membership dues: $20/year
(single membership) & $25/year (couple or family)

Club History
Approximately 25 years
ago, some of the guys that ran the streets and
liked cars discussed starting a car club. The
first meeting was held at Auto Parts &
Specialty's on DeGrange Street. After that, we
began holding meetings at the Frederick National
Guard Armory. Our third meeting was the first
official meeting of the Golden Gears Car Club. I
was the first member to be voted into the club
(Ronnie Smith). The President was Wayne Wilt,
and some of the other members included: Donnie
Lawson, Wayne White, Steve Fogle, Frosty Smith,
Reds Main, Jim Napoli and Bill Brookfield, who
also designed the club logo. Some time later,
Randy Zimmerman and many others joined. Randy
and I are the only two that have stayed in the
club since we've joined.
The reason for
starting the club was that the only clubs
around this area were East Coast Chevy's and
The Frederick County Street Rods. These clubs
were specialty clubs only. So, we started a
club that was open to anything, cars or
trucks, old or new. Also, in order to help get
kids off the streets, we used to go to the
drag strips on club days and win a lot of
trophies for the most members and the best
appearing club. During this time there were
not many car shows going on. When we started,
we began helping out a lot of people. Over the
years of the club's existence, we have donated
thousands of dollars to Z104's Christmas Cash
For Kids and given food, fuel and money to
needy families, helped a boy get two hearing
aides, raised money for terminally ill
children, as well as, a man with kidney
problems. We have also donated thousands of
dollars to Hospice of Frederick County's Camp
Jamie for children. Our club has participated
in many parades and won a lot of awards and
trophies. The members of the Golden Gears Car
Club enjoy cars, helping people and ask for
nothing in return. And, we always attempt to
keep our club name clean and treat it with
respect.
